A 19-year-old girl living in a village in Radhanagar area had gone to a marriage in Bindki Kotwali area on Thursday (June 22) to attend the wedding of her cousin along with her relatives.
The accused, Sikandar Khan, a resident of Jwalaganj, reached there and kidnapped the girl and after taking her to a house under construction 500 meters away, raped her and crushed her with a brick. The accused was arrested and sent to jail soon after.
The girl was found lying in an under-construction house in Faridpur in the early morning on Friday (June 23). She was rushed to Kanpur Hallett Hospital and was undergoing treatment in its intensive care unit (ICU) but succumbed to the injuries.
Meanwhile, earlier this month, the father of a 15-year-old gang-rape survivor hanged himself allegedly over the delay by police in probing the case in Uttar Pradesh's Akodhi village in Jalaun, news agency PTI reported.
The girl’s family alleged that the police did not take timely action due to which the 35-year-old man died by suicide on Sunday (June 4).
A station house officer and another policeman were suspended on Tuesday, police said. The minor girl was allegedly raped by two persons on the pretext of taking her to a birthday party on March 28. She managed to escape and later narrated the ordeal to her family, police said.
Following this, her parents, who worked as street vendors in Punjab, returned to Jalaun on May 31, and lodged a complaint at the police station with SHO Narendra Kumar Gautam and sub-inspector Ashok Kumar.
