Ensure Adequate Arrangements At Markets, Main Roads: CM Yogi Adityanath At Heatwave Review Meeting

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday chaired a high-level meeting with officials from the state over heatwave condition which has claimed the lives of 120 people in the last one week. UP Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary Revenue, Principal Secretary Health, Additional Chief Secretary Forest, Relief Commissioner, Police and other high level officials attended the meeting. At the meeting, the Chief Minister said that all arrangements be made at all levels.

He also said that awareness be created among people to protect themselves from heatwave and identify the symptoms. The CM also directed that there should be scarcity of drinking water and adequate arrangements must be made at markets and main roads. 

As for the number of deaths, 53 people died in Deoria in the past 24 hours due to severe heat. In Partapgarh, 18 people died in the last three days while 69 died in Ballia. Seven deaths were reported due to persisting heat stroke in Varanasi on Sunday.

In view of the extreme heat, several government of the north Indian states have extended summer vaccations in schools. 

Madhya Pradesh's school education department announced extension of summer vaccation due to the prevailing heatwave conditions, as informed by Education Minister Inder Singh Parmar. While classes for primary students will resume on July 1, classes for students from 6th to 12th grade will commence on June 20.

The minister also stated that classes for students from 6th to 12th grade will be conducted in the morning shift from June 20 to June 30, and all schools in the state will revert to their regular schedules from July 1. Class 5 examinations will proceed as per the original schedule, he added. 

Despite the onset of the monsoon earlier this week, all schools in Patna, Bihar will remain closed until June 24 due to the prevailing heatwave conditions. The district magistrate has issued an order prohibiting academic activities in all private and government schools up to Class 12, including pre-schools and Anganwadi centers, within the district.

The decision has been taken to prioritize the safety and well-being of students in light of the intense heatwave, ensuring that they are not exposed to potentially harmful weather conditions.
