Atiq-Ashraf Murder Case: Accused Sent To 4-Day Police Custody, Cop Suspended: Key Developments

All the three shooters in Atiq-Ashraf murder were sent to four-day police custody and Shahganj police station SO Ashwani Kumar Singh was suspended based on a report by the SIT

The three shooters accused in the killings of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Khaild Azim alias Ashraf were sent to four-day police custody by a court of Prayagraj chief judicial magistrate on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the station officer at the city's Shahganj police station has also been suspended after the Special Investigation Team, constituted by Prayagraj Commissioner of Police Ramit Sharma, started its probe into the incident on Tuesday. 

The 60-year old gangster-turned-politician, Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf were handcuffed when they were shot dead by the assailants posing as journalists on Saturday night while police personnel were escorting them to a medical college in Prayagraj for a check-up.

Three Shooters Sent To Police Custody

All the three shooters accused of killing Atiq and Ashraf — Mohit alias Sunny (23) of Hamirpur, Lavlesh Tiwari (22) of Banda and Arun Maurya (18) of Kasganj — were sent to a four-day police custody by Prayagraj CJM court on Wednesday. The police remand will start from 2 pm today and will be till April 23, 4 pm. 

All the three shooters were brought by the Prayagraj Police from Pratapgarh jail and produced before the court of CJM. 

Following the incident, a case was registered against the three assailants under sections 302 (punishment for murder), 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC, Arms Act and Criminal Law Amendment Act. The arms used in the crime were also recovered from the spot.

Cop Suspended 

The station officer (SO) of Prayagraj's Shahganj police station, Ashwani Kumar Singh was suspended Wednesday after the SIT probe started yesterday. The investigation team started its investigation on Tuesday by visiting various spots including Dhoomanganj police station, Colvin Hospital. As per sources, the team was also expected to visit Shahganj police station and question the police personnel who were on duty on the day of the incident.

After questioning the police personnel, including the SO, he was suspended after the action was taken on the basis of the SIT report, stated ANI.
