Leaders Who Questioned Asad's Encounter Under House Arrest. Heavy Deployment Around SP, Congress Offices

The heavy police deployment around the opposition party headquarters is intended to prevent any untoward incidents and to maintain law and order in the state. 

In response to Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf Ahmed being shot dead on Saturday in Prayagraj, heavy police forces have been deployed around the Samajwadi Party (SP), Congress and BSP headquarters in Uttar Pradesh. Sources have informed ABP Ganga, police have also put several leaders of opposition parties under house arrest who had questioned the police encounter of Atiq Amhed's son Asad.

Gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother were shot dead just days after the killing of Atiq Ahmed's son Asad in an encounter with the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (UPSTF) earlier this week.

Atiq and his brother Khalid Azeem alias Ashraf were shot dead at point-blank range by three men posing as journalists in the middle of a media interaction on Saturday night while police personnel were escorting them to a medical college in Prayagraj for a checkup.

Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh government has imposed Section 144 across the entire state. This means that gatherings of more than four people are prohibited, and additional police personnel have been deployed to maintain law and order.

CM Yogi Adityanath has called a meeting with senior UP Police officials, including the director general of police (DGP) and the additional director general of police (ADGP). The meeting is being held at the house of CM Yogi in Lucknow.

Akhilesh Yadav, the former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and the leader of the Samajwadi Party, claimed on Saturday that crime in the state has peaked and criminal morale is high. He raised alarm, stating that if someone can be assassinated openly in the middle of a police security cordon, what about the protection of the general public?

Notably, Atiq Ahmed was charged in the 2005 murder of BSP MLA Raju Pal, as well as the murder of Umesh Pal in February of this year.
