The AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi said that the party will contest the UP polls in alliance with Om Prakash Rajbhar-led Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) and Bhaagidaari Sankalp Morcha.

The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) party on Sunday announced that it would contest 100 seats in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls which are scheduled to take place next year.

Taking to his official Twitter handle on Sunday, the Hyderabad MP in Hindi, announced that his party will contest the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls.

"Regarding Uttar Pradesh elections we have decided to field our candidates in 100 seats. The party has started the process of selecting the candidates and has also released the candidate/aspirants application forms," Owaisi tweeted.

In another tweet, the AIMIM chief said, "We are with OP Rajbhar Sahab 'Bhaagidaari Sankalp Morcha'. We did not have any talks with any other party regarding elections or tie-up".

In the recent panchayat polls in UP, AIMIM performed well Akhilesh Yadav's constituency Azamgarh and deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya's hometown Prayagraj. In 2015, the party had won four seats in the zila panchayat polls. The rise in the graph of AIMIM in the UP panchayat elections has boosted the morale of the party workers.

Earlier today, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati said the party will fight state assembly elections alone in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. She also refuted reports that her party plans to tie up with Asaduddin Owaisi-led AIMIM in the state.
