Following his resignation, the SP leader will relinquish the role of Leader of the Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly.
It's worth noting that initially, Tej Pratap Yadav was nominated as the party's candidate for the Lok Sabha elections from the Kannauj constituency. However, the decision was later altered due to discontent among party workers, who advocated for Akhilesh to contest from that seat.
Akhilesh Yadav is slated to become the party's representative in the Lok Sabha, with the necessary procedures set to be finalised in Delhi.

Speaking to news agency PTI, party spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary said, "It is understood that Yadav will be the leader of the party in the Lok Sabha but there is a formality of choosing the leader of the parliamentary party and this will be completed in Delhi."
"The formality of electing the leader of the parliamentary party will be completed after the swearing-in of the prime minister and the selection of the Lok Sabha's protem speaker," he added.
Following Akhilesh's win from Kannauj Lok Sabha seat, Chaudhary had confirmed that the SP supremo will resign as MLA from the Karhal seat in Mainpuri.
