Protest Over Fee Hike Leads To Clash Between ABVP Members, Vice-Chancellor — Watch
The students' protest took place after the issues raised by the union remained unresolved despite assurances from the VC.
The members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABPVP) on Friday allegedly assaulted the Vice Chancellor and the registrar of the Deen Dayal Upadhyay University in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur. The incdinet occurred over alleged irregularities in the campus and fee hike, as per Indian Express The students' protest took place after the issues raised by the union remained unresolved despite assurances from the VC, as per a report in Jagran.
The protest turned violent when a group of ABVP workers and people from outside the campus assaulted University officials, as per Indian Express. They also damaged property and attacked the police officers who were trying to control the situation and restore order. Among the injured were Vice-Chancellor Rajesh Singh and registrar Ajay Singh, who sustain head injuries after being attacked with a blunt object, Indian Express reported.
“In the presence of police, students and outsiders created a ruckus on campus. The police tried to convince the students to stop but they failed. The police then decided to take the university officials out of the campus safely. When the V-C was being taken to safety, the miscreants manhandled him,” said a university official, who did not wish to be identified, as quoted by Indian Express.

“The miscreants attacked and injured officiating registrar Professor Ajay Singh. When he fell on the ground, the miscreants hit him and he suffered injuries. They also hit him with a blunt object on his head. Later, the police shifted him to a safer place,” the official said. “The episode was captured on CCTV. There are some outsiders involved in the violence. We have filed a complaint with the police, naming students and outsiders, including contractors,” said a senior university official, as quoted by Indian Express.
