A Thriving Farmer, A Flourishing Punjab: The Mann Government’s Vision In Action
A thriving Punjab through farmer prosperity. Significant crop diversification, like increased cotton and maize cultivation with subsidies, is boosting farmer income and sustainability.

In the heart of Punjab’s progress story lies a deep commitment to its farmers; the very hands that feed the nation. For Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, farmer prosperity isn’t just a policy agenda; it’s a personal mission. With clear intent and consistent action, the Punjab Government is rewriting the narrative of agriculture, from survival to sustainable success.
Crop Diversification Takes Root
One of the cornerstones of this transformation is crop diversification, a strategy aimed at increasing farmer income, reducing ecological stress, and ensuring long-term agricultural sustainability.
In 2025, the results speak volumes:
20% increase in cotton (Narma) cultivation across Punjab
Cotton cultivation area rose from 2.49 lakh acres to 2.98 lakh acres, a 49,000-acre surge in just one year
Districts leading this change include:
Fazilka – 60,121 hectares
Mansa – 27,621 hectares
Bathinda – 17,080 hectares
Sri Muktsar Sahib – 13,240 hectares
This surge isn't co-incidence, it’s the result of targeted policy, direct support, and ground-level execution.
Direct Benefits: Subsidies and Incentives
To encourage this positive shift, the Mann Government is providing:
- 33% subsidy on cotton seeds to reduce input costs
- Financial support across various crop diversification schemes
- Active awareness campaigns to empower farmers with the right information
The support isn’t limited to cotton. The cultivation of maize (makka) is also witnessing a strong revival in Punjab.
Maize on the Rise
Between 1st to 9th June, over 54,000 acres were sown with maize, a clear signal of farmers embracing alternative crops with confidence.
To further this momentum, the government has launched a pilot project across six districts, offering:
₹17,500 per hectare as an incentive for switching from paddy to maize
The goal? To expand maize cultivation to 12,000 hectares, reducing the ecological burden of water-intensive crops while increasing farmer profitability.
A Farmer-First Governance Model
This isn't just a program/ Model it's a promise. The Mann Government is actively working to ensure:
- Healthier soil and water conservation
- More profitable, market-aligned crops
- Reduced dependency on traditional water-guzzling cultivation
- Financial empowerment through direct government support
With every acre that turns from paddy to maize or cotton, Punjab inches closer to a future that’s green, prosperous, and resilient.
“When the farmer thrives, Punjab thrives.”
This is the driving force behind the Mann Government’s farmer-first approach.
