'Incorrect': NCP Chief Sharad Pawar Flags Concern Over CBSE Circular To Schools On Partition

Sharad Pawar said that though the Maharashtra government has no role to play in the circular, it must express its view to CBSE.

New Delhi: Raising concerns over a recent circular issued by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), asking schools to inform students about the aftermath of Partition, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar said, as seen in the light of national and social unity, it would be “incorrect” to pass on the thoughts of strife to the younger generation, news agency PTI reported.

Speaking at the inauguration of a school in Pune on Sunday, Pawar, as quoted by PTI, said, “I am worried about a circular issued by the CBSE recently that asks its schools to inform students about the situation which erupted during Partition.”

Speaking at length over the tales of displacement and violence that the historical event left in its wake, Pawar said, “The history of Partition is the history of the country's division amid bloodshed. Thousands of people were displaced. Many from the Sindhi community had to migrate to India. Similar situation was in Punjab. Many Muslims left for Pakistan.”

The NCP veteran said that though the Maharashtra government has no role to play in the circular, it must express its view to CBSE. Senior Congress leader Sushil Kumar Shinde and state minister and BJP leader Chandrakant Patil were also present at the event.

"With respect to national and social unity it is incorrect to imbibe such thoughts (Partition violence) on the young generation. The state government must ensure no subject creates conflict in society," Pawar added.
