'Don't Believe PM Modi Is Misusing CBI & ED, But...': Mamata On Resolution Against 'Excesses' By Central Agencies

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, "I don't believe PM Modi is misusing CBI, ED; Some BJP leaders are doing this for their interests."

New Delhi: The West Bengal government on Monday passed a resolution in the Assembly against the excessive interference of central agencies like the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the state, as reported by news agency PTI. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, "I don't believe PM Modi is misusing CBI, ED; Some BJP leaders are doing this for their interests."

Mamata urged PM Modi to ensure that the agenda of the union government and the interests of his party do not get mixed up.

"I urge PM Modi to ensure functioning of government and party is not mixed up; this won't be good for country," CM added.

The BJP opposed the resolution which was later passed by the Assembly.

"The present union government is behaving in a dictatorial way. This resolution is not against anyone in particular, but against the biased functioning of the central agencies," Banerjee, also the Trinamool Congress supremo, said as quoted by PTI.

The resolution was passed through division, with 189 voting in favour of it and 69 against it.

Central agencies such as CBI and ED are probing into several cases in the state, in which senior TMC leaders are accused.

Suvendu Adhikari, leader of the Opposition, said such a "resolution against the CBI and ED" is against the rules and regulations of the Assembly.

In the last few months, top party leaders like Partha Chatterjee, who was a strong leader and minister of Trinamool Congress and Trinamool President of Birbhum district Anubrata Mandal, have been arrested by the central agency CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Apart from this, the ED had questioned Abhishek Banerjee recently.
