Maharashtra has been witnessing heavy downpours for the last few days leading to a rise in water of the Godavari river and inundating several areas in Mumbai, Thane and Nashik.
Maharashtra Rain: A yellow alert has been sounded in Mumbai and other areas of Maharashtra after heavy showers lashed the state on Wednesday inundating roads and drains in many areas across Nashik and Thane. According to PTI, several dams have discharged water due to massive rains leading to a rise in the water level of the Godavari river. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Ratnagiri and a Yellow alert for Mumbai, Thane, Raigad and Palghar for September 28. This comes days after Nagpur witnessed a severe flood following torrential rain last week. Users took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) and shared visuals of flooded roads in the state.
"Currently, rain is wreaking havoc in Nashik city of Maharashtra. There was so much rain in the city on Friday evening that there was water all around. The city's drains, roads, bus stands and railway stations were all submerged," a user wrote.

- Heavy showers in the last few days have caused the authorities to discharge water from dams like Gangapur, Nandur-Madhyameshwar, Kadwa, Palkhed, Karanjwan, Waghad and Darna.
- An official said that the release of 3,408 cusecs of water from Gangapur dam on Wednesday led to an increase in the water level of Godavari. Irrigation department officials said that if the rains continue, then the discharge of water will be increased in phases.
- Meanwhile, students and officegoers faced trouble in Nashik due to flooding of roads.
- In Thane, around seven two-wheelers and a tanker parked on the premises of a business complex were damaged after a huge tree fell on them on Wednesday evening, PTI reported quoting officials.
- A senior official of the civic disaster management cell said that no one was injured in the incident and an auto-rickshaw, and a tanker were damaged after the tree fell on them. He said the civic personnel have removed the uprooted tree.
- Many areas in Kalyan township were inundated due to thunderstorms followed by heavy rains. Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) reported 24.64 mm of rainfall fall in two hours from 3.30 pm and 5.30 pm. As per PTI, a rainfall of 16.51 mm was recorded between 4.30 pm and 5.30 pm.
- According to TMC, Thane received a total rainfall of 3251.99 mm between June 1 and September 27. The town received 2795.62 mm of rainfall during the same period last year.
- IMD has now issued a Yellow alert for Palghar and Mumbai for Thursday. A yellow alert has also been sounded in Thane and Raigad till Friday. The weatherman issued an orange alert for Ratnagiri predicting very heavy rainfall here on Thursday which is likely to reduce to heavy rainfall on Friday.
