Kannada superstar Darshan, who is currently in jail facing charges of kidnapping and murdering his fan Renukaswamy, has been provided with a television by prison authorities on the occasion of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival. Darshan is imprisoned alongside his partner Pavithra Gowda and 15 others in connection with the case.

According to sources, known to news agency IANS, prison officials approved the installation of a 32-inch television in Darshan's cell early Saturday after he requested it last week. Previously, the prison authorities had granted Darshan's request for a surgical chair because he was unable to use the standard Indian toilet available in his cell. Darshan had also sought permission to make phone calls, which was granted.

Recently, Darshan, requested for a TV, citing his desire to stay updated on news, particularly regarding the submission of the chargesheet in his case, and expressed curiosity about current events in the outside world. The provision of a television is reportedly allowed under prison guidelines, although a delay occurred as the television needed repairs.

They further stated that Rs 35,000 had been deposited into Darshan's private account, out of which he spent Rs 755 on tea and coffee ordered from the jail canteen. The actor is said to be under considerable stress following the submission of the chargesheet against him and is worried about the potential consequences.

Meanwhile, the chargesheet has revealed details of the alleged cruelty Darshan inflicted on Renukaswamy during his captivity. It mentions that Darshan and his accomplices forced Renukaswamy, a known vegetarian, to eat non-vegetarian food. When Renukaswamy spat out the food, Darshan reportedly kicked him and berated him for doing so. The police have also recovered blood stained dress of Darshan and his associates. They have also found Pavithra Gowda's footwear with blood of Renukaswamy.
