Haryana Polls: Clash Breaks Out Between Supporters Of Congress & Independent Candidates In Nuh

Haryana Assembly Elections 2024: A scuffle broke out between the supporters of Congress candidate Mohammad Ilyas and independent candidate Raees Khan in Khwaja Kalan and Gulalta villages under the Punhana assembly constituency in the Nuh district of Haryana on Saturday. Police arrived at the spot and pacified the villagers.

Riots had broken out in Nuh on July 31, 2023, during a VHP 'Brajmandal Yatra', leaving six people dead. The riots were a recurring issue, with candidates blaming each other for the flare-up. 

Haryana Records 36.69% Voter Turnout Till 1 PM

The voter turnout at 1 pm was recorded at 36.69%. It was recorded at 22.7% around 11 am and 9% at 9 am today. Panchkula (25.8%), Gurgaon (27.7%) and Sonipat (33%) were among the districts that recorded the lowest turnout.

Haryana Chief Minister and BJP candidate from Ladwa assembly constituency Nayab Singh Saini said "the wind is in BJP's favour". "BJP government is being formed for the third time in Haryana and lotus will bloom in Ladwa with a big margin... No one can stop Congress from dreaming, they also dreamed in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh but they should look at their work and see how they have become an obstacle in development...The people of the state are understanding the way they have insulted Dalits," he said after casting his vote.

The key contesting parties in Haryana include BJP, Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), as well as the pre-poll alliance between Indian National Lok Dal-Bahujan Samaj Party (INLD-BSP) and Jannayak Janta Party (JJP)-Azad Samaj Party (ASP).

Security has been tightened in the state as a total of 1,031 candidates are contesting in all 90 assembly constituencies, and 20,632 polling booths have been set up for voting. A total of 2,03,54,350 voters in the state will be able to exercise their rights in the 15th Haryana Legislative Assembly Elections.
