CCTV Cameras, Security Staff & Police Post: Haryana Govt Issues Advisory For Medical Colleges Amid Kolkata Rape-Murder

The directive said that there should be a police post in all government medical colleges which should remain open all 24 hours and a woman police personnel should be deployed there on duty.

In the wake of the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, the Haryana government on Wednesday issued an advisory to the medical colleges in the state to ensure the safety of the doctors, students and nurses.

The government ordered the hospital to deploy security staff and install CCTV cameras wherever required in the college premises. It also ordered the colleges to comply with the directive and send a compliance report to the state headquarters within 48 hours.

The directive was issued by the Haryana government's Department of Medical Education and Research for the safety of doctors and other staff in the government and private medical colleges and universities in the state.

It also asked the institutions to maintain a close liaison with their nearest police station, SHO and DSP.

There should be a police post in all government medical colleges which should remain open all 24 hours and a woman police personnel should be deployed there on duty, it stated.

It also ordered that CCTV cameras should be installed in all hostels, at gates and on roads and the monitoring of the CCTV cameras should be done 24 hours.

“Ensure well-lit secure parking areas, sufficient street lighting in the campus and provide escort services or safe transportation options for night shifts for women. Implement secure access controls, including ID badges, keycards, or biometric authentication for all staff and in late hours restrict entry to authorised areas for authorised personnel only,” the directive added.

The CBI has began the investigation into the alleged the rape-murder of a woman doctor at a state-run hospital even as unidentified miscreants ransacked a part of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

The vandalism took place amid midnight protests by women in various parts of the state against the alleged rape and murder of the doctor in the seminar hall of the hospital.
