Gujarat Floods: 35 Dead As IMD Warns Of More Rains, Road To Statue Of Unity In 'Pieces' In Vadodara: Watch
Gujarat Floods: The IMD has sounded a red alert for 11 districts in Gujarat on Thursday as rains battered several parts of the state since Saturday.
A road leading to the iconic Statue of Liberty in Gujarat's Vadodara was seen cracked into pieces as heavy rains battered the region. The incessant rain led to the closure of one side for traffic.
Authorities suspect that the road was damaged due to the combination of relentless rain and releasing of water from a nearby dam, reported India Today. While repair work of the road has already started it could take several months for restoration as the damaged part will be demolished and prepared for reconstruction.
Video of the incident is being widely shared on social media where big chunks of concrete could be seen displaced from their place shutting down the traffic on one side.

Rain-related incidents have claimed the lives of 35 people in the state so far after 25 more were reported dead on Thursday. These deaths were reported from Rajkot, Anand, Mahisagar, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Morbi, Junagadh and Bharuch districts. Heavy rains lashing parts of the state since Saturday have displaced around 17,800 people who were evacuated to safer places.
Teams of National and State Disaster relief forces, the Army, the Air Force, and the Coast Guards have been called in for rescue and relief works.
The India Meteorological Department issued a red alert for 11 districts on Thursday. The alert has been sounded for Kutch and Saurashtra regions which include Kachchh, Dwarka, Jamnagar, Morbi, Surendranagar, Junagadh, Rajkot, Botad, Girsomnath, Amreli, and Bhavnagar districts.
Despite a pause in rains in Vadodara, the city grappled with flooding in a large swathe of low-lying areas as the Vishwamitri river, flowing through the city, breached its banks and entered residential localities, inundating buildings, roads and vehicles.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi dialled Chief Minister Bhupender Patel and took stock of the situation. He also assured support from the Centre to the state in tackling the natural disaster.
