BTech Student Shot Dead In Ghaziabad Flat By Girlfriend's Father, 'Stormy Relationship' Suspected Trigger

Accused Rajesh Singh, a retired BSF trooper, was aware of frequent quarrels between victim Vipul and his daughter. He arrived at Vipul's flat around 3:30 AM and argued with him then shot him 5 times.

An engineering student was allegedly shot dead by the father of the woman he was in a relationship with. The father reportedly disapproved of their relationship, which is said to have run into rough weather of late. Vipul, a 25-year-old BTech student, was shot dead at a flat in Ghaziabad’s Crossing Republik around 3.30 am on Saturday, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rural) Vivek Chandra Yadav was quoted as saying by PTI.

The accused, Rajesh Kumar Singh, a resident of Ballia, is a retired Border Security Force (BSF) trooper and currently works for a private security company. He is believed to have reached his daughter's flat on Friday night, and called Vinay, who lived in the same building.

"The accused reached the flat in the night and had an altercation with Vipul after which Singh shot him five times," Yadav was quoted as saying by PTI. Singh reportedly himself called the police to report the crime.

Relationship & Frequent Quarrels 

According to a report in The Times Of India, which quoted police, Vipul and his girlfriend had been in a relationship for 5-6 years, but had been quarrelling a lot in recent times. She had confided in her brother about the quarrels, and the latter then told their father. On Friday, the girlfriend called her father after she had another argument with Vipul.

Vipul was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead on arrival, the Times of India report noted. His body has been sent for an autopsy, and the case is being investigated.

“The accused has been taken into custody and the victim’s family has been informed about the incident,” Wave City ACP Poonam Mishra was quoted as saying by PTI.
