Bihar Police Register Case After Email Threat About 'Attack On CMO'

The email, sent to the CMO on July 16, claimed connection with the Al-Qaeda. It said that even the Bihar Police could not prevent the attack.

The Bihar Police have registered a case regarding an email threatening to bomb the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO). The email, sent to the CMO on July 16, claimed a connection with the Al-Qaeda. It said that even the Bihar Police could not prevent the attack.

According to PTI, the FIR was registered based on the statement of Sachivalaya Police Station Station House Officer (SHO) Sanjeev Kumar.

"It's an old case... we have registered an FIR on August 2, 2024 after an inquiry," Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Rajeev Mishra told the news agency on Saturday.

The threat email prompted the police and the Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) to launch an investigation.

According to the FIR, available on the website of the State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB) of Bihar Police, the case has been registered against unknown persons under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and IT Act. The case under Sections 351 (4) (Criminal Intimidation By Anonymous Communication) and (3) (Death or Grievous Injury Threats) of the BNS, 2023, as well as Section 66 (F) (Cyber Terrorism) of the IT Act, registered against unidentified persons.

Mock Drill After Several Hoax Emails

In May, a mock counter-terrorism drill was conducted by the National Security Guard (NSG) and the Delhi Police at the Parliament building, among other premises in the capital, to ensure preparedness after a string of hoax emails threatening attacks at several establishments.

The mock drill was conducted at Kashmiri Gate, the new Parliament building and a few other places. NSG commandos were dropped from an M17 helicopter on the roof of the Parliament building during the mock drill.

A Delhi Police source told IANS that the drills were conducted at various sites such as Metro stations, schools, temples, and government buildings. A police official said different agencies were working together in a terror-attack simulation to ensure proper preparedness.
