The hotel project, planned on a 35.32-acre site, was set to include a 100-room, five-star luxury resort under the ‘Trident’ brand, with an estimated investment of Rs 250 crore. The establishment was scheduled to be operational by 2027, with an additional 25 rooms to be added later. However, growing opposition from religious leaders and devotees, who feared that commercial activities would compromise the spiritual sanctity of the sacred hills, led to the project’s termination.
Last month, seers from Tirumala staged a hunger strike against the proposed hotel, arguing that it would desecrate the holy site.
Other Plans In Tirumala
Beyond the cancellation of the hotel, Naidu also unveiled plans to expand the spiritual reach of Lord Venkateswara. He announced an ambitious initiative to construct Venkateswara temples in every state capital across India and extend this effort to international locations with significant Hindu populations. Letters will be sent to all state Chief Ministers, seeking their support for these temple projects.
Furthermore, Naidu emphasised the need to ensure that only Hindus are employed at the Tirumala Temple. He assured that if individuals from other religious backgrounds are currently working there, they would be reassigned to other positions without hurting their sentiments.
