A 52-year-old swimmer from Samalkot in the Kakinada district completed an astonishing accomplishment by swimming 150 kilometres across the sea from Visakhapatnam to Kakinada. Goli Shyamala, the swimmer, began her voyage on December 28 from RK Beach in Visakhapatnam and arrived at Suryaraopet NTR Beach in Kakinada rural on Friday. She swam 30 kilometres per day.
Shyamala is already known for her previous achievements, including swims in the seas of Rama Sethu, Sri Lanka, and Lakshadweep. With this, Shyamala continues to inspire women with her extraordinary determination. Originally from Samalkot and now residing in Hyderabad, she has become a symbol of endurance and resilience.

Upon her arrival at Kakinada Beach, Shyamala was greeted by Peddapuram MLA Nimmakayala Chinarajappa, Red Cross Chairman Rama Rao, Kakinada Municipal Commissioner Bhavana, and representatives from the Seaport.
During the felicitation, Shyamala spoke about her experiences and challenges, including encounters with jellyfish during the swim. She expressed joy at being accompanied by friendly turtles until Rambilli and emphasised the need to protect rare marine species.
In 2021, she swam across the Palk Strait, and in February 2023, she became the first Asian to complete the challenging waters around the Lakshadweep Islands.
Her recent journey was supported by a dedicated 14-member crew, including medical staff and scuba divers, who ensured her safety and provided essential assistance throughout the arduous swim.
On the personal front, she was reportedly running a studio but had to shut it down due to financial losses which changed the course of her life. Yet, Shyamala’s remarkable achievements continue to inspire women and aspiring swimmers worldwide.
