VIDEO: Watch Axar Patel take first hat-trick of IPL 9, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP)

New Delhi: Kings XI Punjab spinner Axar Patel on Sunday became the first bowler of the Indian Premier League 2016 to take a hat-trick. It is the 14th hat-trick of the IPL. Playing against Gujarat Lions, Axar dismissed Dinesh Karthik, Dwyane Bravo and Ravindra Jadeja on consecutive balls to claim his first hat-trick. Axar bowled out Karthik on the fifth ball of the 7th over of Gujarat Lions’ innings. On the very next ball, Axar dismissed Bravo. But KXIP new captain Murali Vijay didn’t give him another over until the 11th over of the innings. On the very first ball of the 11th over, Axar dismissed Ravindra Jadeja to complete his first hat-trick. This is the third time that a KXIP bowler has taken a hat-trick in IPL. Before Axar, Yuvraj Singh took both the hat-tricks for KXIP. Yuvraj claimed both the hat-tricks in the 2009 season – first against Royal Challengers Bangalore and then against now defunct Deccan Chargers. The first-ever hat-trick was taken by Chennai Super Kings’ Laxmipathy Balaji in 2008 against Kings XI Punjab. Amit Mishra has the most number of hat-tricks to his name. The leg-spinner has so far claimed hat-trick on three occasions – for Delhi Daredevils against Deccan Charges in 2008, for Deccan Chargers against Kings XI Punjab in 2011, and for Sunrisers Hyderabad against now-defunct Pune Warriors India in 2013.
