'Golden Boy Now World's No 1': Neeraj Chopra Attains Career-Best Rank In Javelin Throw

Earlier, while taking part in the  Diamond League in Zurich, he once again showcased his prowess after throwing 89.63 meters.

Ace javelin champion Neeraj Chopra scripted history after becoming the first Indian to reach the world number 1 ranking in the men's javelin discipline on Monday.  Olympic champion Chopra replaced Anderson Peters from the world no.1 position. Neeraj started his run after clinching a  gold medal win at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 where he also became the first Indian athlete to seal Olympic gold in athletics. It was his outstanding throw of 87.58 meters that propelled him to victory and etched his name in the history books.

Earlier, while taking part in the  Diamond League in Zurich, he once again showcased his prowess after throwing 89.63 meters.

"It was a very hard win, but I’m happy, It’s a really good start for me. I hope to come in the first place in the next competitions and to keep consistent during this season," Chopra told the media.

"I feel really good, today was challenging for all athletes, but I’m still satisfied with my result. It was a good start and it’s a great atmosphere. Lot of people came to support me and they are really happy," Chopra concluded.

Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi also lauded Neeraj Chopra for reaching the first position in Doha's 2023 Wanda Diamond League. Jakub Vadlejch of Czech Republic finished second with a throw of 88.63m, while Reigning world champion Anderson Peters of Grenada finished third with a throw of 85.88m.

PM Modi tweeted, "First event of the year and first position! With the World lead throw of 88.67m, @Neeraj_chopra1 shines at the Doha Diamond League. Congratulations to him! Best wishes for the endeavours ahead."
