Ajeet Singh Wins Silver, Sundar Gurjar Grabs Bronze In Javelin To Ensure India Double-Podium Finish At Paralympics

India’s Ajeet Singh and Sundar Singh Gurjar achieved a double podium finish in the Men's Javelin Throw F46 final at the Paris Paralympics 2024.

India’s para javelin throwers Ajeet Singh and Sundar Singh Gurjar ensured that India celebrated a double podium finish at the Paris Paralympics 2024 on September 3 (Tuesday). Ajeet and Sundar delivered stellar performances and won a silver and a bronze medal respectively in the Men's Javelin Throw F46 final event. Ajeet secured the silver medal with a season-best throw of 65.62 metres, while Gurjar took home the bronze with a top distance of 64.96 metres.

Ajeet Singh, showing resilience and skill, improved his performance with each attempt barring the fourth, culminating in his best throw of 65.62 metres in the fifth round to secure the silver.

Ajeet Overtook Sundar To Win Silver At Paralympics 2024

Gurjar, the Tokyo Games bronze medalist, who consistently led the competition, maintained his position in the top two until the fifth round when Ajeet took over him to claim the second spot. His impressive throws, including a season-best 64.96-meter effort in the fourth round, ensured he finished with the brponze.

Sundar began with a throw of 62.92m and then 61.75m in his second attempt. He saved his best for later, reaching 64.96m in his fourth attempt. 

Sundar appeared to be on track for silver until his teammate Ajeet delivered a personal best throw of 65.62m in his fifth attempt, surpassing Sundar and securing the silver. Ajeet had thrown 59.80m initially and then improved with every subsequent attempt, reaching 65.62m to clinch the silver and add double medal win for India.

Rinku, another Indian competitor, put in a commendable effort but finished fourth with a best throw of 60.58 metres. Despite not reaching the podium, his performance added to India’s strong showing in the event.
