Juventus Goalkeeper Buffon Overtakes AC Milan Legend Paulo Maldini's Games Tally To Set New Appearances Record In Serie A

The Juventus legend surpassed AC Milan great's long standing record of 674 appearances in Seria A to become the most capped footballer ever in the Italy's premier division football.

Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, one of Italian and world football's legendary soccer star, scripted history by setting a new record for the most appearances in Italy's top flight club football, the Serie A. The Juventus legend surpassed AC Milan great's long standing record of 674 appearances in Seria A to become the most capped footballer ever in the Italy's premier division football. Buffon achieved the record during a Serie A game against Torino. He had been stuck on 647 games since December, with Wojciech Szczesny currently Juve's first-choice goalkeeper. The 42-year-old veteran Goalie joined Juventus in 2001 after starting off his professional career with Italian club Parma. He established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world in a very short span of time and is widely regarded as one of the best of all times. While he was expected to retire at the end of the 2017-18 season, he instead made a surprise move to Paris Saint-Germain, where he won the French league to add to his multiple titles. He caused even more of a stir when he rejoined Juventus the following year. Buffon recently extended his contract for another season. Buffon has enjoyed a great degree of success With Juventus, clinching 11 Scudetti titles with the Turin-based socceer powerhouse, four Italian Cups, and six Italian Super Cups. Buffon tasted success with Parm winning the UEFA Cup and an Italian Cup. Later on in his career, he also found a way to win Ligue 1 title and the French Super Cup with Paris Saint-Germain. In the international arena, Buffon has tasted success with the Italian national football team as he was part of Italy's FIFA World Cup-winning side in 2006.
