IPL 2021: Shimron Hetmyer Reveals Reason Behind Having Number 189 Jersey On His Back
Shimron Hetmyer said that 189 is the biggest score made by him back home and that's why he wears this number jersey while playing for West Indies and other franchise leagues of the world.
New Delhi: The journey of Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 has so far been nothing less than phenomenal. Rishabh Pant-led Delhi, with 16 points, defeated Rajasthan on Saturday to move to top spot in IPL 2021 Points table.
For Delhi, Shimron Hetmyer and Rishabh Pant played an important role in the match against Rajasthan. While Shreyas Iyer scored 43, Hetmyer made a big difference with his fiery 16-balls 28 run knock. Delhi defeated Rajasthan by 33 runs on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer had a conversation with Hetmyer after the match. The video of their conversation was shared via the official twitter handle of Indian Premier League.
During the conversation Iyer asked Hetmyer the secret behind his jersey number 189. In reply, Hetmyer said that 189 is the biggest score made by him back home and that's why he wears this number jersey while playing for West Indies and other franchise leagues of the world.
“Well, that’s actually my highest score. It wasn’t in Tests. If it was in Tests, I would probably be crying now (jokingly). It was my highest score in cricket back home. I can’t remember what game it was, to be honest. I guess that was just one of those days. I just went out, swiped and I got to 189 and then I got out,” Hetmyer recalled in a video posted on IPLT20.COM.
Hetmyer had garnered a lot of attention when he colored his hair blue ahead of the second leg of IPL 2021 in UAE. When Shreyas asked him the reason for this, he said this is something he loves doing.
“I love bling, that’s one. And, I love looking after my hair as well. It is something that I really like doing and I put some chemicals in it to keep it nice and soft.”
Hetmyer has so far scored 112 runs in 8 matches for Delhi Capitals, who will play their next match on September 28 against Kolkata Knight Riders in Sharjah.
