Hockey World Cup: Canada, South Africa play out 1-1 draw
Hockey World Cup 2018: The two goals came in the third quarter of the match Nqobile Ntuli broke the deadlock for South Africa while Canada equalized through Scott Tupper
South Africa and Canada played out a 1-1 draw in their Pool C match of the Hockey World Cup 2018 at the Kalinga Stadium on Sunday.
Both South Africa and Canada were desperate for a win after losing their first match to India and Belgium respectively.
The two goals came in the third quarter of the match. Nqobile Ntuli broke the deadlock for South Africa with a composed finish in the 43rd minute after he played into the circle by Drummond. The forward turned around to beat the goalkeeper and applied the finishing touch at the far post. But South Africa’s lead lasted just two minutes as Canada equalized through Scott Tupper, who scored from the first penalty stroke of the tournament.
Canada will face India in their next match and South Africa will lock horns with Belgium. If both of them fail to beat their opponents, then Canada will advance because of a better goal difference.
