ISL Playoffs: ATK Mohun Bagan Beat Hyderabad FC In Penalty Shootout, Set Up Final With Bengaluru FC

ISL: ATK Mohun Bagan avenged their defeat against Hyderabad FC in the semi-final of the previous season.

ATK Mohun Bagan registered a 4-3 win over Hyderabad FC in the penalty shootout in the second leg of their semi-final at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan on Monday. The win has ensured that they will play the final against Bengaluru FC who had already booked a berth in the summit clash by overcoming Mumbai City in their semi-final.

Notably, no goals were scored in the first leg of this semi-final and the story remained the same in 120 minutes of football. Eventually, Vishal Kaith’s save from Javier Siverio’s penalty that was followed by a miss from Bartholomew Ogbeche that allowed The Mariners to reach the final with captain Pritam Kotal's spot kick finding the back of the net.

While the Green and the Maroon Brigade had tested The Nizams' defence on multiple times during the course of the match, Hyderabad were not that threatening. Some of the notable moves from ATKMB include a long-range effort from Glan Martins that flew a few inches wide off the far post. The goal kick that followed saw Gurmeet Singh play it straight to Dimitri Petratos who went ahead with the shot with an unmarked Kiyan Nassiri waiting.

Manvir Singh also attempted a shot but the ball hit the cross after his effort from the edge of the box.

Hyderabad FC did produce a couple of chances in the second half but perhaps their best bet was the one attempted by Ogbeche that touched the outside of the net instead of going in.

The final result implies that ATK Mohun Bagan have successfully avenged their last season's defeat in the semifinal against the Nizams. They will now to look to clinch the title when they take on Bengaluru FC  in the final in Goa on March 18.
