The national team's former manager had been in hospital in Buenos Aires after surgery to remove a blood clot on the brain earlier this month. His last public appearance was when he was presented with a commemorative plaque ahead of his side's game with Patronato. The 60-year-old, flamboyant player best known for leading Argentina to the 1986 Football World Cup title, has left a huge void for the entire sports fraternity with his untimely demise. • The goal took place on June 22, 1986, at at the famous Estadio Azteca Stadium in Mexico City. At the end of the first half, the game was still tied at 0-0 when Maradona then at the age of 25, began to influence the end result of the match.
• The legend took the ball out of the box with his left leg passing it to his teammate Jorge Valdano when it was only six minutes into the second half of the game.
• Maradona struggled for the ball alongside goalkeeper Peter Shilton inside the penalty box. The magic unleashed as Shilton jumped forward with his right hand, while Maradona did so with his left arm outstretched.
• As believed and reported several times, Maradona's fist was up close to his head and touched the ball, then hit the ball into England's goal.
