Yuvraj Singh Reacts As Prakhar Chaturvedi Shatters His 24-Year-Old Record In Cooch Behar Trophy Final

Chaturvedi's innings surpassed Yuvraj Singh's record for the highest score in a Cooch Behar Trophy final. Yuvraj had previously set the record with a score of 358 in the final against Bihar in 1999.

In the final of the Cooch Behar Trophy 2023-24 against Mumbai, Karnataka's young talent Prakhar Chaturvedi etched his name into the history books. Opening the innings, Chaturvedi played an unbeaten innings, making an unbeaten 404-run knock off 638 balls which kept the right-hander on the crease for 885 minutes, setting a massive record of becoming the highest individual scorer in the final of the Cooch Behar Trophy. 

Breaking a 24-year-old record set by Yuvraj Singh who made 358 runs off 404 balls in 1999, Chaturvedi hit three sixes in his extraordinary innings. Yuvraj’s innings lasted for 579 minutes and included 6 sixes in the final of the tournament against Bihar. Led by Dheeraj Gowda, Karnataka posted an imposing total of 890/8 in 223 overs against Mumbai. In response, Mumbai, boosted by Ayush Mhatre's 145, posted 380 in their first innings in 113 overs.

‘Records Are Meant To Be Broken’

Yuvraj expressed his reaction to Prakhar Chaturvedi surpassing his record, stating that all records are meant to be broken. "Very happy to see this! Records are meant to be broken and I'm glad to see the future of Indian cricket in safe hands," he shared on X (previously Twitter).

Partnering with Karthik S U, Chaturvedi added 109 runs for the first wicket. His opening partner contributed a solid 50 off 67 balls. Teaming up with No.3 batter Harshil Dharmani, Chaturvedi played a pivotal role in building a substantial total against Mumbai. While Dharmani scored 169 off 228 balls, Chaturvedi played an impressive knock of 404 off 638 balls.

Chaturvedi formed a remarkable 290-run partnership with Dharmani and added 70 runs in a 152-run stand with Karthikeya KP. He also shared a 41-run partnership with Samit Dravid, son of Rahul Dravid, who has recently made headlines in domestic cricket. Chaturvedi became the first player to score 400 in the Cooch Behar Trophy final, tormenting the Mumbai bowlers with 46 boundaries.
