While the highlight of 2024 for Indian fans was undoubtedly the T20 World Cup win, the year also brought a bittersweet chapter as several familiar faces in Indian cricket bid farewell to the sport. Some retired from international cricket entirely, while others stepped away from specific formats. Here’s a look at the star Indian players who called time on their cricketing careers this year:

1. Ravichandran Ashwin: The legendary Indian spinner shocked everyone by announcing the end of his international career. Following India's third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 in Brisbane, Ashwin announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket. Since making his debut in 2010, Ashwin represented India in 106 Tests, 116 ODIs and 65 T20Is, claiming 537, 156 and 72 wickets, respectively. 2. Virat Kohli: Virat Kohli stunned his fans by announcing his retirement from T20Is. His decision came after a Player of the Match performance in the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 against South Africa. Kohli made his T20I debut in 2010 against Zimbabwe and went on to play 125 matches, amassing 4188 runs at an average of 48.69, including one century and 38 half-centuries. 3. Rohit Sharma: Rohit followed Virat Kohli into T20I retirement after leading India to victory in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. He finished the tournament as India’s top scorer, amassing 257 runs at an impressive strike rate of 156.70. Retiring as the highest run-scorer in T20I history, Rohit played 159 matches, scoring 4,231 runs at a strike rate of 140.89. 4. Ravindra Jadeja: All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja became the third Indian player to announce his retirement from T20Is following India's T20 WC victory. Since his T20I debut in 2009, Jadeja played 74 matches, claiming 54 wickets at an economy rate of 7.13 and scoring 515 runs with the bat. He also continues to play the ODI and Test formats for India. 5. Shikhar Dhawan: Having played his final match for India in December 2022, Dhawan officially announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in August this year, including the IPL. The left-handed batter represented India from 2010 to 2022, playing 34 Tests, 167 ODIs and 68 T20Is. He accumulated 10,867 runs across formats, including 24 centuries and 55 half-centuries.
