You don't come to Test match cricket to just surrender: Collymore

West Indies bowling coach Corey Collymore, whose team is heading for defeat, said that his team will now have to perform exceptionally well to avoid defeat in the first Test against India.

The second day of the first Test being played in Rajkot has strengthened India’s hold against the West Indies. At the end of the second day's play, West Indies had lost 6 wickets for 94 runs. On the basis of the first innings, the team is still 555 runs behind, in such a way the team will be expected to perform a miraculous display.

Former West Indian fast bowler Collymore said, "You have to be honest with yourself. India is in the ascendancy and it's only Day 2, already seriously behind the eight-ball, so it's gonna [going to] take a mammoth effort for us to pull it back. But again, you don't come to Test match cricket to just surrender."

"What I saw, it's not what you want, especially from your top order, chasing 600-plus.These things happen in cricket, but again I hope our guys definitely learn from it. We can see how well the Indians played, they are accustomed to conditions but there's experience and things we can learn from.", he added. 

Collymore said that the absence fast bowler Kemar Roach along with skipper Jason Holder was a big reason for disappointment on the first day. He said, "Tomorrow's day was very difficult. Our two new players were on the field. One was doing a debuting and the other was playing his second Test (Sherman Lewis and Chemo Paul). They are playing in India for the first time and it is very difficult for them to adjust to the conditions. "
