Watch: Nathan Lyon Bowls An Extraordinary Delivery To Dismiss Cheteshwar Pujara, Shocks Rohit Sharma Too

In reply to India’s 109, Australia scored  156 for four in their first innings at stumps on the opening day of the third Test on Wednesday.

On a rank turner Indore’s wicket, Australia dominated day 1 as they bundled out the hosts for just 109 runs on Wednesday. Both the Indian openers were sent to the pavilion by the spinners. But the highlight of the day was Cheteshwar Pujara’s wicket as he was bamboozled by the extra spin of Nathan Lyon.

During the ninth over of the match, Australia’s ace spinner Nathan Lyon released the short ball outside off stump and Pujara was looking to cut the ball towards the point area but then the ball turned and hit the stumps. Pujara was completely shocked as he was clueless. The Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was also surprised to see the sharp turn.

In reply to India’s 109, Australia scored  156 for four in their first innings at stumps on the opening day of the third Test on Wednesday. Usman Khawaja starred with the bat for Australia as he made 60 off 147 and built a 96 runs stand for the second wicket with Marnus Labuschagne to power Australia to a decent total.

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja continued his top form and took all four wickets for India but the day completely belonged to the visitors, who had faced a lot of criticism heading into this Test match.

The scoreboard at the end of the Day's play showed Australia leading by 47 runs with 6 wickets in hand and Peter Handscomb and Cameron Green out in the middle. Jadeja was the only wicket-taker for India but was guilty of bowling a no-ball on which he had removed Labuschagne early before his stand with Khawaja compelety helped Australia seal the day.

Earlier, Gilchrist told ANI, “It’s been a tough series and they have been outplayed by India up to this point, so the series is done and they can’t win it but they can salvage a lot out of it. That’s the challenge. Look, Australia has come up against a very skilfull Indian team here. But there is no reason Australia can’t salvage something out of it. Of course, the World Test Championship is something that is on offer for both teams. So that makes it quite interesting".

Earlier, Virat Kohli (22) and Shubman Gill (21) were the top-scorers for India in a flop show by the batters on a spinning track.
