Virat Kohli requests BCCI to change rule concerning stay of wives of players with team: Reports

During an event hosted at the UK High Commission during India’s tour of UK, Anushka’s picture with the team had gone viral due to which the board had to face criticism as none of the other players or staff’s family members were seen in that picture

Indian captain Virat Kohli has urged the BCCI to allow players' wives to stay with them for full overseas tours. According to the policy that currently exists, wives of the players and support staff can stay with them (team) for not more than two weeks.

As per a report in The Indian Express, Kohli first approached a top BCCI official with the issue and in turn, was assured that his message will be conveyed to the Committee of Administrators (CoA).

“The request was made a few weeks back but as it is a BCCI policy decision, the manager will have to submit a formal request first. Anushka has been travelling with Kohli overseas, however, Kohli now wants the old rule to be abolished and a new policy should come up where wives should be allowed to travel with the Indian team,” a source was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.

“This is the norm wherever the team travels. The High Commission invites the players with their relatives and it is eventually the decision of the individuals. Even in London, the players were invited along with their partners. There has been no breach of any protocol,” a BCCI official told Hindustan Times.
