Parthiv Patel leads Gujarat to first ever Ranji Trophy title
New Delhi: Captaincy knock of 143 runs from Parthiv Patel helps Gujarat clinch its first ever Ranji Trophy title defeating the 41 time champions Mumbai by 5 wickets at the Holkar stadium in Indore.
Chasing 312, Gujarat ended the day 4 on 47/0 and 265 runs on the final day with 10 wickets in hand.
Parthiv Patel and Manprit Juneja stitched 116-run stand for the 4th wicket with manprit heading back to the pavilion after scoring 56 runs. Patel managed another fine partnership with Rujul Bhatt. The duo added 95-runs for the 5th wicket.
The Gujarat captain smashed 90 runs in the first innings helping Gujarat take 100-run lead after bowling out Mumbai for 228. Parthiv performance was followed by a gritty knock of 143 in the second innings.
This was Gujarat’s first final in 66 years after 1950-51 Ranji season whereas Mumbai were Playing record 46th final. Last time Mumbai lost a Ranji Trophy title clash was in 1991 season to Haryana at the Wankhede stadium.
