Lok Sabha Session Ends Without Valedictory Speech By Leader Of House, Opposition For First Time

The Winter session of Lok Sabha ended abruptly due to clashes between the BJP-led ruling NDA and opposition parties, led by Congress.

The Winter session of Lok Sabha came to an end on a chaotic note on Friday as equations between the BJP-led ruling NDA alliance and the opposition parties including Congress plummeted over the week.

On Friday, the Lower House of Parliament convened after a day amid sloganeering by opposition MPs. Shortly after the proceeding of the Lok Sabha began, Speaker Om Birla adjourned the House sine die.

This was the first time when the Lower House of Parliament broke the convention of concluding the session with a valedictory speech. Conventionally, the Leader of the House and Leader of the Opposition address the House on the last day of the Parliament session. However, due to massive uproar inside and outside the Parliament during the ongoing Winter session, the Speaker adjourned the House without the valedictory speeches.

On Thursday, Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi was caught in the eye of a storm after NDA MPs accused him of pushing and injuring lawmakers from the party.

The Bharatiya Janata Party was protesting against Congress at Makardwar, the main entrance of the Parliament for MPs, alleging the party of insulting Ambedkar.

BJP MPs alleged Gandhi was trying to enter from Makardwar and was stopped by security staff when he pushed BJP MPs Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput. The two lawmakers were taken to Ram Manohar Lohiya Hospital where they underwent treatment.

The doctors at the hospital said the health condition of both the BJP leaders was stable and their CT Scan and MRI reports were also normal.

An FIR was filed against Gandhi by BJP MPs at the Parliament Street Police Station. He was booked under sections 115 (voluntary causing hurt), 117 (voluntary causing grievous hurt), 125 (the act of endangering life or personal safety of others), 131 (use of criminal force), 351 (criminal intimidation) and 3(5) (common intention) of the BNS.

All sections in the FIR against Gandhi are bailable except Section 117 (voluntary causing grievous hurt), said a police officer.
