England edged hosts New Zealand in yet another Super Over tie to win the nerve wrecking 5th T20I encounter at the Eden Park in Auckland and clinch the 5-match T20I series 3-2. After the visitors leveled Kiwis' 146 run total in the rain reduced 11-over a side encounter, the contest went into a Super Over to decide the winner.
Batting first in the Super Over, England pair of Jonny Bairstow and Eoin Morgan notched up 17 runs off Tim Southee's bowling and set 18 as the target for New Zealand to win the encounter. In reply, the Kiwis batting duo of Martin Guptill and Tim Siefert could only manage to score 8 runs as English seamer Chris Jordan bowled a brilliant over to help the visitors clinch the victory and win the series.
England could manage to level New Zealand's daunting 146 run total riding high on Jonny Bairstow's blistering 47 run knock. There were quick-fire knocks by Sam Curran, Eoin Morgan and Chris Jordan which helped the visitors equal the herculean total set by the Black Caps.
Batting first, New Zealand posted a mammoth 147-run target against England in fifth and final T20I, which is being played out as a rain-reduced 11 over a side game at the Eden Park in Auckland. The Kiwis opener Martin Guptill and Colin Munro went all guns blazing from ball one of their innings to inflict sheer carnage on the English bowlers in the power-plays.
The lethal opening combo produced an exhibition of belligerent hitting, clearing the short boundaries on offer at will with some lusty hitting. While Guptill got to his half ton in just 20 balls, with 5 towering sixes and 3 boundaries, Munro played a whirlwind 21-ball 46 run knock. Wicket-keeper batsman Tim Seifert provided the late flourish with a quick-fire 39 cameo off just 16 balls.
