Mushtaq Ahmed appointed as assistant coach of West Indies
Mushtaq will join the team in their next tour to Bangladesh which is slated to begin with a two-day practice match in Chittagong followed by a two-match Test series
Former Pakistan spinner and bowling coach Mushtaq Ahmed has signed a one-year contract with Windies Cricket for the post of assistant coach. He recently ended his stint as the spin bowling coach of Pakistan’s National Cricket Academy and all set for his new responsibility. As per the contract, Ahmed will need him to commit 150 days in a year.
The 48-year-old has served as Pakistan’s bowling coach for 18 months after which he was replaced by Azhar Mahmood back in 2016. Since then, he has been coaching players at the NCA in Lahore. He has also worked with England Cricket as well.
According to several media reports, Ahmed was set to join the West Indies from the ongoing India tour, but couldn’t due to visa glitches. Hence, he will join the team in their next tour to Bangladesh which is slated to begin with a two-day practice match in Chittagong followed by a two-match Test series. The tour is also comprised of three T20Is and as many ODIs.
A look at Mushtaq Ahmed’s cricketing career
Mushtaq Ahmed played almost 13 years for Pakistan. In 52 Tests, he grabbed 185 wickets and scalped 161 wickets in 122 Test matches. He last represented Pakistan in a Test match against South Africa, back in 2003.
