Lendl Simmons out of IPL, Mumbai Indians call in Martin Guptill as replacement

New Delhi: One’s loss is another’s gain. New Zealand opener Martin Guptill, who was ignored during the players auction, has been called in as replacement by Mumbai Indians after Lendl Simmons was ruled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) with an injury.

Mumbai Indians coach Ricky Ponting shared this information while on air during their match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens here on Wednesday.

Guptill is a dangerous short-format batsman and perfect replacement for Simmons, who was instrumental in West Indies victory over India in the World T20 semi-final earlier this month.
