England Announce Playing 11 For ENG vs WI 2nd Test; Name Replacement For James Anderson

England have announced their playing 11 for the second ENG vs WI Test, set to unfold at Trent Bridge. They have also named the replacement for James Anderson, who retired from Tests after Lord's Test.

England have announced their playing eleven for the second Test against West Indies which will take place at Trent Bridge in Nottingham from July 18 (Thursday). The Ben Stokes-led team, fresh off a commanding win by an innings and 114 runs over the West Indies in the first ENG vs WI Test, have made only one change to their lineup. England have brought in just one change after their greatest bowler ever– James Anderson, retired from Test cricket after the first match of the series.

Following James Anderson's farewell at Lord’s, the Three Lions have brought in express pacer Mark Wood as his replacement. Three bowlers were in contention to replace Anderson in the playing eleven for the second ENG vs WI Test: Matthew Potts, Dillon Pennington and Mark Wood. Potts and Pennington were part of the squad for the first Test, while Wood was added for the second game.

Wood To Play First Test Match Since India vs England Series In 2024

Mark Wood’s most recent appearance for England was at the T20 World Cup last month, where he played 5 matches and took 3 wickets as England faced a knockout exit in the semifinal against India. Wood's most recent Test match was in March this year during the Dharamsala Test against India.

Led by Ben Stokes, England registered a commanding victory over West Indies in the first test. They completely dominated West Indies at Lord's, winning the match by an innings and 114 runs. The match concluded in just over two days as West Indies batters struggled to face the English bowlers.

West Indies, batting first, were dismissed for a mere 121 runs. They initially held firm for the first ten overs but faltered after debutant Gus Atkinson broke the opening partnership, eventually claiming a remarkable 7-wicket haul to put England in control.
