In the view of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 Coronavirus (COVID-19) protocols, one of World's top-ranked batsman Steven Smith, fiery opener David Warner and hard-hitting batsman Aaron Finch are among 12 Australian players who will miss the start of the cash-rich T20 League. Star players Smith, Warner and Finch are part of Australia's 21-man squad for the upcoming tour of England in September, to play three T20Is and as many ODIs before the start IPL 2020, set to take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from September 19. All Eng vs Aus matches will be played behind closed-doors, in a bio-secure bubble with zero spectators.

After completing their tour of England, the latest all Australian players can reach UAE is September 17 or 18. As per IPL SOP, they will be quarantined for 6 days and their RT-PCR tests will be conducted on Day 1, 3 and 6. If the players test negative for coronavirus on all three occasions, they will be allowed to enter the bio-secure bubble.

England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed that the T20Is will be played on September 4, 6 and 8 followed by the three ODIs on September 11, 13 and 16.

However, Cricket Australia (CA) has allowed Australian cricket team's senior assistant coach Andrew McDonald to miss the upcoming white ball tour against England so e could join IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals, of whom he is the head coach.
