India vs West Indies 5th ODI in numbers: The shortest and biggest, Rohit's 200 and Jadeja's liking

This was India’s sixth consecutive series win and their eighth in a row against West Indies. Here are some more interesting numbers from the 5th India vs West Indies ODI.  

India saved the best for the last pummelling West Indies by 9 wickets after bowling them out for 104 in the fifth ODI at Thiruvananthapuram to clinch the series 3-1.

This was India’s sixth consecutive series win and their eighth in a row against West Indies. Here are some more interesting numbers from the 5th India vs West Indies ODI.  

Shortest and Biggest

This was the shortest ODI featuring India, lasting for only 46.4 overs and a little over 3 hours. The previous shortest one was against New Zealand in 2010 at Chennai, in which India emerged as the winner in 48.1 overs.

India chased the 105-run target down in 14.5 overs. This was their 2nd biggest win in terms of balls to spare. Their best was against Kenya in 2001, where they won with 231 balls to spare.

This was Windies’ lowest total vs India in ODIs in completed innings

They got all out in just 31.5 overs – lowest in 1 innings in 50 over ODI (completed inns)

 

Rohit Sharma the six machine

Rohit Sharma hit four sixes in his unbeaten 63-run knock, taking his sixes tally to 202 to become only the second India after MS Dhoni to reach that landmark.

Rohit is the fastest to 200 ODI sixes achieving the feat in only 187 innings mark at No.7 in the all-time six hitters list which is led by Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi (352 sixes)

 

Jadeja’s dream and Dhawan’s nightmare

With a 4 wicket haul today, Jadeja needs just 2 wickets to make Windies as his most favoured team in ODIs

  • He has 2nd best average after England against Windies
  • After today’s spell, Jadeja has bowled 211.1 overs vs Windies – most against any team he bowled against

2018 turned out to best year for Jadeja as he is taking wickets at an average of 24.57 –second best in any year of his ODI career

  • His economy rate is 4.59 in 2018 in ODIs – second best in any year of his ODI career

Since his debut, Jadeja has taken most number of wickets in ODIs in the Indian outfit. He also has the most number of 4+ wicket hauls in that period.

Nemesis of Windies came to haunt Dhawan again as he was poor in this series

  • He failed to score a single 50 plus score in this series
  • He has scored just 112 runs at an average of 22.40.

Dhawan hasn’t performed well against Windies throughout his ODI career compared to his other opponents

  • He averages 34.60 against Windies – second worst vs any team his ODI career and he didn’t

help it improve in this series

  • His strike rate is second worst vs teams he has played (min 2 matches)
