Cricket is coming back to India after a pandemic struck year. After Chennai’s Chidambaram Stadium, fans to be allowed in Ahmedabad’s Motera Stadium as well.

Tamil Nadu government, on Sunday decided to allow 50% spectators inside the stadium of all sports events in the state. This move, will allow spectators inside the stadium for the first Test match between India and England on 5 February. The second Test would also be played here from February 13. Whereas, the third and fourth Test would be played at Ahmedabad’s newly constructed Sardar Patel Stadium whichis also known as Motera Stadium. This Test would be played from 24 to 28 February.

The newspaper Indian Express has reported that the BCCI has decided to allow fans inside the stadium during the third Test match of the India vs England series. “As the seating capacity is more than a lakh, the GCA can easily accommodate 50 per cent crowds for the third and fourth Tests. The Government has allowed sports stadiums to run with 50 per cent capacity so it has been decided to allow fans for the matches in Ahmedabad. The media will also be able to cover the game from the stadium,” said a BCCI source to the newspaper.

The Motera Stadium was recently revamped and now the seating capacity has reached 1, 10,000 which makes Motera the largest cricket stadium in the world. The Motera Test will mark the return of Test cricket to India after November 2019. The third Test match would be a day-night Test played with the pink ball.
