Paarl Royals released a statement addressing the gunpoint robbery involving Fabian Allen, assuring fans that the West Indies all-rounder is safe and will continue participating in the SA20.

West Indies cricketer Fabian Allen fell victim to an armed mugging in Johannesburg on January 25. The 28-year-old all-rounder, in the city to participate in the ongoing 2024 SA20 League for his team Paarl Royals, was targeted in what his franchise termed an "isolated incident." However on February 6 (Tuesday), an official statement from the Paarl Royals confirmed Allen's safety after the unfortunate episode.

Fabian Allen was a victim of the distressing incident just outside his team hotel on January 25. The Paarl Royals confirmed that the cricketer is set to participate in the team's Eliminator match against Joburg Super Kings on Wednesday.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the franchise reassured, "Following a media report surrounding an isolated incident with Fabian Allen in Johannesburg in the early hours of 25th January 2024, Paarl Royals would like to state that the West Indian all-rounder is safe, and enjoying his time at the SA20 as he, along with his teammates and support staff, prepares for the all-important Eliminator on Wednesday."

The statement also highlighted the franchise's commitment to player safety and well-being while acknowledging the necessary support provided to Allen following the incident. It emphasised Allen's keenness to continue his participation in the SA20 and his availability for selection, having featured in the playing XI for the Royals twice since the incident.

“The franchise works closely with the league to ensure the safety and well-being of its players and staff, while also allowing them to have free personal time as well. Following the incident, the player was provided with the necessary support by the franchise and the league, and was keen to continue his participation at the SA20, and has since been available for selection (twice also featuring in the playing XI for the Royals),” added the statement from Paarl Royals further.
