ENG vs NZ, ICC World Cup 2019 Final: Williamson becomes highest run scorer as skipper in single WC edition

Williamson has been the highest run-geter for the Kiwis in the ICC 2019 World Cup and is fourth on the list of top run scorers in the tournament so far.

New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson who is in red hot form in the ongoing World Cup got his name to a unique batting record in showpiece event during Kiwis World Cup final against England at the Lord's cricket ground.

Williamson who came into bat with a staggering 548 runs in the kitty against England in the World Cup finals, scored a single off the bowling of Jofra Archer  to go past Sri Lankan Mahela Jayawardene’s run tally of 548, the highest by a skipper in the history of the World Cup.

Mahela Jayawardene had scored 548 runs for Sri Lanka in the 2007 World Cup held in the Caribbean. On the back of Jayawardene’s brilliant batting form, Sri Lanka had made it all the way to the finals against Australia, eventually losing to the Aussies.

Williamson has been the highest run-geter for the Kiwis in the ICC 2019 World Cup and is fourth on the list of top run scorers in the tournament so far. The stylish right handed batsman has scored two centuries for the Kiwis at the ongoing World Cup.

New Zealand who are playing England in the grand finale of the ICC World Cup 2019 are bidding to win their maiden title at the marquee event. The Kiwis are playing in their second straight final after reaching the summit clash against trans-tasman rivals Australia in the 2015 edition of the tournament.
