Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway Surface Peels Off, Asphalt Sinks, Cracks Appear In Divider

Such defects in the divider and ramp have emerged within about a month of construction, raising further concerns over the quality of the work.

Questions have once again been raised over the quality of the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway's elevated road after rain damaged several stretches. The asphalt layer has peeled off at around half a dozen locations between Sainik School and the Sarojininagar industrial area, exposing loose stones and creating potholes of varying sizes.

Several parts of the expressway also reportedly developed depressions during the rain. The agency responsible for the project has deployed its patrolling team to carry out repairs in the affected areas.

20-Metre Road Section Sinks, Repairs Begin

A section of around 20 metres between kilometres 65.4 and 65.5 on the Lucknow-Kanpur carriageway reportedly sank. After receiving information, the agency's patrol team reached the spot and began repair work.

Similarly, a nearly 300-metre stretch near kilometre 67 had sunk. Repairs on this section were completed by Saturday, although traffic has not yet been allowed on the affected stretch.

Repairs Completed On 300-Metre Stretch, Traffic Still Restricted

Near Bandukheda at kilometre 69.8, the soil beneath the road also reportedly gave way following the rain. Protection work carried out near Chiraiya Nala was also damaged and sank during the downpour.

With similar problems emerging at different locations amid continuous rainfall, concerns have been raised over the construction and maintenance quality of the expressway. The agency concerned, however, has started repair work on the affected sections.

Major Cracks Appear In Divider Near Shivpura Toll Plaza

Large cracks have appeared in the divider of the elevated road near Shivpura toll plaza. The divider along the Kanpur-Lucknow carriageway has reportedly developed damage, while a section of the ramp has also started sinking during the rains.

Such defects in the divider and ramp have emerged within about a month of construction, raising further concerns over the quality of the work.

Loose Stones, Potholes Raise Accident Risk

The peeling of the asphalt layer has left loose stones exposed on the elevated road, while potholes of different sizes have developed at several locations. Continued movement of vehicles could cause these potholes to expand further.

Instances of road subsidence, damaged asphalt and cracks in the divider during the rains have raised concerns about the strength and durability of the expressway. Apart from temporary repairs, the affected stretches may also require a detailed assessment of construction quality to prevent further inconvenience and accidents for commuters.
