Chris Woakes likely to miss 4th Test due to thigh pain

It has been learned from several media reports that this is the same injury which ruled him out from the limited-overs series against Pakistan, Australia and India, held earlier this year

England all-rounder Chris Woakes is likely to miss the fourth Test against India, starting from Thursday at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. The 29-year-old cricketer was suffering from a thigh pain which kept him away from the practice sessions.

An ECB spokesperson confirmed the development on Tuesday. While speaking to Sky Sports, he said, “Woakes has tightness in his right quad and will not train today. We will take a view where he is at tomorrow.”

It has been learned from several media reports that this is the same injury which ruled him out from the limited-overs series against Pakistan, Australia and India, held earlier this year.

On the other hand, the English board hasn’t named any replacement for Woakes so far. If he fails to make into the playing XI, Sam Curran, who did exceptionally well in the first two Tests at Edgbaston and Lord’s, is expected to take his place.

The 2nd Test at the Lord’s marked Woakes’ return to the Test side and bagged the Mann of the Match award for his maiden century to go with four wickets in an innings win for his team.
