In a dramatic turn of events, before the first ball of the final over was bowled Farooqi showed his presence of mind to run Shadab out at the non-striking end which seemed to have irked Babar Azam.
The second ODI between Pakistan and Afghanistan was one which went down to the wire. It could have been a memorable victory for Afghanistan but ultimately it wasn't to be as the Men in Green once again found a way to be on top. Naseem Shah and Shadab Khan came to Pakistan's rescue and helped them snatch a win when the match looked dead and buried for the Babar Azam-led side.
Notably, Afghanistan batted first and posted a formidable 300/5 on the board. In response, the chasing side found themselves in serious trouble when they 211/6. It all came down to 27 needed off the final two overs which was when Shadab and Naseem decided to try and go for the big shots and see what happens. Shadab managed to strike a six and a four off the last two balls of the 49th over which meant Pakistan needed 11 to win off the last six balls.
In a dramatic turn of events, before the first ball of the final over was bowled Fazalhaq Farooqi showed his presence of mind to run Shadab out at the non-striking end with the batter looking to snatch inches away before the ball had been delivered. The batter's dismissal ignited a bit of controversy. However, ultimately it was Pakistan who won with Naseem hitting a four off the first ball and then again on the fifth ball of the over to take the team over the line.
After the match, Babar Azam was seen in a rare angry avatar. He was seen delivering angry handshakes to the Afghanistan team and even avoided eye contact with his opponents. He seemingly brought the run out incident with Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi, he was seen gesturing at Farooqi, seemingly talking about his run out of Shadab.
