AUS vs PAK, 2nd Test: Australia Inflict Massive Innings Defeat On Pakistan, Sweep Series 2-0
Australia's thumping win came on the back of a brilliant triple ton by David Warner and a stellar bowling effort by Mitchell Starc and off spinner Nathan Lyon.
Hosts Australia inflicted a massive innings and 48 runs defeat on Pakistan to win the second Test at the Adelaide Oval on Monday and clean sweep the 2-match Test series 2-0.
Australia's thumping win at Adelaide Oval came on the back of a brilliant maiden triple ton by opener David Warner and a stellar bowling effort by front-line seamer Mitchell Starc and off spinner Nathan Lyon.
With the commanding win over Pakistan, the Aussies further improved on their unbeaten record in Day/Night Tests to 6-0.
After the dinner break on Day 4, the hosts did not take take long to bowl out the visitors in the second innings as Jos Hazelwood clean bowled Mohammad Rizwan and a unnecessary run out of Mohammad Abbas led to the final nail in Pakistan's coffin.
Off-spinner Nathan Lyon stole the show on the penultimate day of the Day-night Test as he wrecked through the Pakistani batting lineup by picking up a 5-wicket haul to help the Baggy Greens clinch yet another clinical win.
At the dinner the break on Day 4, Pakistan were 229-8 with Mohammad Rizwan batting on 40 and Mohammad Abbas giving him company at the crease.
Off-spinner Nathan Lyon was the chief tormentor for Pakistan as the off-spinner took a stellar five wicket haul by casting a web around the Pakistani middle and lower order batting. Lyon 5-fer also bought up his 50th Test wicket against Pakistan. Resuming on their overnight score of 39-3, opener Shan Masood and Ashad Shafiq registered a gritty half century stand to help the visitors bail out of trouble. However, off spinner Nathan Lyon ended the resistance by scalping Masood for 68. Lyon accounted for the well settled Asad Shafiq after he completed a well compiled half ton. Just as wicket-keeper batsman Iftikhar Ahmed and Mohammad Rizwan were looking to get Pakistan back into the game, Lyon dismissed Ahmed for 27. The off spinner struck with two quick blows by scalping Yasir Shah and Shaheen Afridi in quick succession. Opener David Warner was awarded the Man of the Match for his maiden triple ton in Test cricket.Australia sweep series 2-0!
