Congenital Heart Disease Awareness Week: Congenital heart defects are a kind of birth defect which affect the structure of a baby's heart, the way it works, and how blood flows in and out of the heart to the rest of the body. A child can have a small hole in the heart, which is a case of mild congenital heart defect, or missing and poorly formed parts, which is a case of severe congenital heart defect. Approximately one per cent of babies are born with a congenital heart defect.  One in
