WATCH | Giant Robber Crab Joins Golfers On Australian Island, Snaps A Golf Club Into Half
Video shot in Christmas Island in Australia shows the robber crab sitting on top of a man’s golf clubs, and then easily slicing through one of it ‘like a chainsaw’.
New Delhi: A round of golf on Christmas Island in Australia turned out to be a shocking experience for a group when they encountered an unexpected participant among them. The group was joined in by an enormous crab that also broke one of the golfers' clubs into half, as seen in a video shared on YouTube.
The clip was first shared on Reddit on Sunday, and it has since gone viral.
The video showed the giant crab sitting on top of a man’s golf clubs after climbing up the bag, and then easily slicing through one of them “like a chainsaw”.
According to a report on news.com.au, local resident Paul Buhner had filmed the video that was shared on Reddit. He identified the crustacean as a coconut or “robber” crab.
True to its name, the robber crab made off with some of the gear carried by the golfers’ group.

What Is A Coconut Crab?
According to the report, Buhner had originally shot the video in October 2020, but it got viral on social media recently after his son sent it to a friend.
His wife Kerry Buhner later posted the same video on YouTube on January 3.
Buhner said while everyone on Christmas Island plays golf on Fridays, he was not “just walking around having a beer” instead of playing on that particular day because he had an injured shoulder.
Christmas Island is said to be famous for its red crabs but also has coconut crabs. The arthropod is locally known as robber crabs.
The coconut crab is a large nocturnal land crab found in the southwest Pacific and Indian oceans, according to Britannica. An adult coconut crab is about 1 metre in size from one leg tip to another and weighs around 4.5 kg.
