New Delhi: In Ukraine, a 52-year-old man from Gujarat is winning hearts for opening his restaurant door to Kyiv residents who are stuck and trying to flee the nation after Russia stepped its military operations in the region.

Manish Dave, the owner of the Indian restaurant Saathiya, posted a message on Telegram spreading the word that the restaurant is in the basement and a safe place to stay in the situation, according to a Washington Post report.

"Dear friend from India or any national, our restaurant is in the basement and it's called a safe place to stay in this situation. If you don't have a proper safe place to stay during this time, please go here. We will try our best to arrange free food and stay according to our capacity. Stand united with Ukraine," the message read.

On being asked for how long he will be able to provide food in a war situation, Dave told the Washington Post "as long as I can."

Dave's Indian restaurant is located at a three-minute walk from the hostel of the international students of Bogomelets National Medical University.

Dave is managing food for almost 125 persons who have taken shelter in the basement, according to a Times of India report. Apart from helping those who are taking shelter at the restaurant, Dave along with his staffers is also working towards arranging food for another group of 39 residents who have taken shelter at a bunker nearby.
